Lexus IS300 Powered by Toyota Supra 2JZ-GTE Engine
Print    Email

Talk about a dream swap that makes so much sense on so many levels. This Supra 2JZ-GTE/IS300 takes Toyota's best turbo engine and Lexus' sportiest car and mind-melds them better than Spock himself could. It's a straight inline-six-to-inline-six proposition that owner, Brad Smith, pulled off almost single-handedly.

In 2000, Brad had the idea of creating a four-door Supra. A Google search led him to is300.net and his plan started to gel. Unfortunately, the IS300 was only available in auto tranny at the time. The swap was possible, but Brad didn't want to mess with installing pedals and a Clutch Master cylinder.

He heard rumors of a pending five-speed and decided to play the waiting game. "I almost cracked a couple of times," says Brad, "but I was able to hold out and I picked up the first manual IS300 on the East Coast 400 miles away in Virginia Beach." The Lex was quickly fitted with a L-Sportline body kit, Rod Millen taillight conversion and spoiler. It ran 14.9 at 91 mph in stock trim. Unable to wait for the swap, Brad turbo'd the Lexus engine via a TBKO kit and made 324 whp vs. 185 stock. At the strip he ran a 13.1 at 109 on an ailing stock clutch.

by the way, they say it will start well under 30 thousand....thats awesome!

Toyota SUPRA (1993 - 1996) Yahoo review

There arent too many secrets left in the world of performance cars. By and large we know where the bargains can be found, what the best money-no-object dream cars are and where youd turn if you wanted something that could lap the Nurburgring in under eight and a half minutes. Thats the obsessive nature of the enthusiast. There is, however, one car that has slipped under their collective radar.

Its the Toyota Supra Mk IV, manufactured from 1993-1996. Available in plentiful numbers on the used market, heres the performance bargain to end all others. Read More...

With the fourth generation of the Supra, Toyota took a big leap in the direction of a more super sports car. The new Supra was redesigned from the ground up and featured two completely new engines: naturally aspirated 2JZ-GE 220 hp (164 kW) and 210 ft·lbf (285 N·m) of torque and a twin turbocharged 2JZ-GTE making a whopping 320 hp (239 kW), 315 ft·lbf (427 N·m) of torque. Toyota Supra Mk III (1986-1992)
Print    Email

In the middle of 1986, Toyota was ready to release its next version of the Supra. The official model year is designated as 1986 1/2. The bonds between the Celica and the Supra were cut; now they were two completely different kind of models. The Celica changed to front wheel drive (FWD), while the Supra kept its rear wheel drive (RWD). Though the A60 (Mk II) and A70 (MK III) had similar designs, the engine was a more powerful version than the earlier 2.8 L and 3.0 L engine with two versions*: one with a CT-26 turbo (the 7M-GTE), which was not available until the 1987 model, and one without (the 7M-GE).
